Nokia N97. Is It An iPhone Killer?

Nokia N97

How does the Nokia N97 compete with the latest iPhone release?

Since Apple first launched their iPhone, Nokia have been on something of a catch up. The Nokia touch screen interface was months behind, and the simplicity with which Apple implemented Applications, or Apps, made a lot of Nokia owners somewhat envious.

But Nokia phones still had a lot of strengths. The camera resolution was and still is, far higher on the high end Nokia devices than on the iPhone, and Nokia had a huge user base, familiar with the Symbian operating system.

Then came the N96, which until recent firmware upgrades promised more than it delivered.

Now with the launch of the N97, Nokia have certainly caught up with other manufacturers, and now can offer one of the most heavily specified mobile phones available (although the camera resolution is still no better than more recent N series handsets). You can record pictures, video or music onto the huge 32GB storage memory.

So what do you get on this Flagship device? Firstly the N97 is only the second Nokia to have a touch screen built into the 3.5 inch TFT colour screen. Behind this there is a full keyboard that sits below the screen and slides neatly and solidly out when you need to use it.

There is a GPS receiver built in which with Nokia Maps will mean you always be able to pin point your location.

And then there is the customisable home screen, with widgets. Change the way the main screen looks and you change the way the N97 works. Add a variety of widgets to make the N97 look and operate as you need it to.

This functionality makes the N97 a more all round useful device than the iPhone, but still probably not enough to make die hard Apple users defect to Nokia.
